I feel this terrible need to be scintillating.
However, in lieu of that, I want to say that
jess79 rocks beyond the ability of mere words to express. Thanks for the LJ code. (And also thanks to
heres_luck for stumping on my behalf.)
I'm still working out what exactly it is I'm going to use this thing for. Starting a journal (paper, electronic, private, public) is one of those liminal moments that begs for melodramatic gestures and rash promises--which are, of course, hideously embarrassing when reread in cold blood. But there are some things I want to articulate for myself about what I'm doing here. When I'm feeling a little less melodramatic, I'll post them.
Watch this space.

Date: 2002-12-18 11:07 pm (UTC)(Also, I'm *extremely* disturbed that the LJ spell-check dictionary does not include the word "liminal." I know I'm not misspelling it, because I'm not *that* spelling-challenged, especially for words I really like, as is the case here, and, moreover, you used it first and you're way smarter than I am. Okay, I'm obsessing now, consulting dictionaries up to and including the OED to construct a theory about why the word does not appear here. What? I don't have a sickness. At least not one I have any interest in curing. Besides, first non sequitur in your LJ! Do I get a prize or do I get banned from posting? I'm excited to find out.)

Date: 2002-12-19 07:49 am (UTC)Yes, I usually waste no time or energy on the stupidity of spell-checkers, but this must have been one of those occasional can't-ignore-them-when-they're-arresting-me-for-killing-Kendra things. Very annoying.

Date: 2002-12-19 05:40 am (UTC)It is, I just checked, in my spellchecker in Protext. (Protext, by Arnor. One of the last word processors made in the old North Kingdom before it fell to the Nazgul. You can't get them like that any more.)

That's going to make me giggle insanely for the rest of the day. Thanks!

Date: 2002-12-20 08:14 am (UTC)They were at Peterborough, IIRC, but if you look at Arnor in the help menu it gives their street address followed by a LOTR page reference.
I've been using Protext since 1985, upgrading betimes, and there's more than one reason for that -- the edges of the spellchecker are only part of it.

Date: 2002-12-19 09:04 am (UTC)oh no! is that what Here's Luck is expecting when she invites people to join her and her wacky crew on LJ? If so, I'm seriously (and I fear irreparably) lacking... Or maybe I can just let you, as the new convert, take over on the scintillation duties? *wink* anyway, welcome aboard [says the darn-near-newbie]! I'm looking forward to being jealous of people with downstairs neighbors they actually like [insert dance of joy that mine are gone for the holidays. Blessed Bass-less Bliss!] ...

Date: 2002-12-19 11:35 am (UTC)In any case, I'm the one who got lured onto LJ with the prospect of having a platform from which to hold forth about the finer points of laundry and salsa. I hardly think the expectation of scintillation would be fair.

Date: 2002-12-19 12:24 pm (UTC)of course you do! and what a merry crew it is *wink* and you're they're leader because you're the first one I met, and there'll be no dissuading me.
>I hardly think the expectation of scintillation would be fair.
phew, well that's a load off!
